Premixed Colors

When writing HyperText Markup Language (HTML) pages, specific colors may be established for fonts, links and backgrounds. Colors are specified by a six-digit "number" representing their red, green and blue (RGB) content. For instance, Blue is represented by 0000FF which includes 00 red, 00 green, and FF blue. The number 0000FF is referred to as an "RGB triplet."

For example, a color number might be used in an HTML tag to set the color on the monitor screen of a:

With the advent of the programming language JavaScript, several widely-used colors were given common names and Web browsers, such as Netscape and Internet Explorer, were enhanced with a list of those color names. Now, identifying a color such as orange red by name, is equivalent to identifying it with its RGB triplet #FF4500.

By the way, the blue color of most of the   text   on this page and this web site is #23238E, which has no corresponding common name.
