The First Image of Earth from AO-40's SCOPE/RUDAK Camera
During commisioning of the SCOPE digital color camera modules onboard the Amateur Radio satellite AMSAT-OSCAR-40, the first full-resolution image of Earth from space by AO-40 was captured Aug. 7, 2001, and downloaded via the satellite's RUDAK equipment on Aug. 8 by the Tokyo JAMSAT SCOPE Team.

Aboard the satellite, camera A has a narrow field of view and camera B has a wide field of view. This photo, snapped by camera B, shows a blue crescent of Earth. Other blobs in the 30msec exposure are artifacts of the equipment. JAMSAT is the Japan AMSAT Association.
